The world is a vast terrain that is full of valleys and mountains. At times, the lens we use to view it becomes cloudy almost foggy with no visibility. Nevertheless, you will see exactly what you need to see. This will be important to remember later. We all have had pain, troubles, and heartaches. And there will be plenty of time to reflect on that. What I want you to know is that your life is a gift. Not a gift in the normal sense, that’s in pretty wrapping with a big bow; but instead, the gift that comes in the pure existence of you. From your hair, to your glasses, down to your long legs. All of that is a gift. You are a gift. People would say a gift from God.
A miracle from God as your name means is exactly what you are. So your life, this gift- will be just like the world full of valleys and mountains. But Smile. Smile like there is no tomorrow. Smile like everybody is watching. Because every day, every breath, and in your case every step you take, is a part of that life that is gifted to you and to those that get to know you. I could write this letter and talk about cerebral palsy, strabismus, ADD or anxiety but that is not what I see. I see life- your presence radiates happiness, your laugh is infectious, and your curiosity to understand will guide you. I am your biggest cheerleader.
But you my sweet, sweet girl have to be your own cheerleader. Learn how to embrace your uniqueness, challenge yourself to be you, fight to find yourself and then fight to find yourself again. Have doubts and fears- acknowledge them and then find ways to face them and conquer them. It’s ok to cry, scream, laugh, and repeat. Do whatever you have to do to live this life that will in turn make you love this life. It’s your life. It’s your gift. It’s your chance.
And remember for as long as I can and as loud as I can I will be cheering you on from the sidelines- at times; crying, screaming, and laughing with you. Love your gift- you only get one.
